I am certainly unfit to advise anyone else on the devotional life. 

My own rules are 

(1) To make sure that, wherever else they may be placed, the main prayers should not be put ‘last thing at night’. 

 

(2) To avoid introspection in prayer

—I mean not to watch one’s own mind /to see if it is in the right frame, but always to turn the attention outwards to God. 

 

(3) Never, never to try to generate an emotion by will power. 

 

(4) To pray without words /when I am able, but to fall back on words /when tired or otherwise below par.

but 그러나 always 항상 to turn 돌리기를 the attention 주목을 outwards 외부로 to God 하나님께. 


(3) Never 결코, never 결코 to try 시도하지 않기 to generate 발생시키기를 an emotion 감정을 by will power 의지력으로. 


(4) To pray 기도하기 without words 말없이/침묵으로

/when 그때 I 내가 am able 할 수 있을 때,

but 그러나 to fall back 돌아서기 on words 말하는 데로

/when 그때 tired 피곤하거나 or otherwise 그런 게 아니고 below par 그리 좋지 않을 때. 

 

* 묵음의 기도는 영적인 기도로 이해되는데 시편 19편에 밤과 낮이 묵음로 하나님의 영광을 전한다는 구절이 있음

(시 19:3) 언어도 없고 말씀도 없으며 들리는 소리도 없으나
(시 19:4) 그의 목소리가 온 땅에 통하고 그의 말씀이 세상 끝까지 이르도다
