To become like God. 하나님처럼 되기

 

[Those Divine demands //which sound /to our natural ears /most like those of a despot and least like those of a lover,

in fact marshal us /where we should want to go /if we knew [what we wanted].

He demands [our worship, our obedience, our prostration].

 

* most like /archaic ; probably, very likely.

* least like mean ; The most disliked out of a group or range of options. least favorite.

 

Do we suppose that they can do Him any good, or fear, like the chorus in Milton,

that human irreverence can bring about ‘His glory’s diminution’?

* To bring something about means to cause it to happen.

* 타동사구 To bring about ; to cause it to happen.

 

A man can no more diminish God’s glory /by refusing to worship Him

/than a lunatic can put out the sun /by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.

 

But God wills our good, and our good is to love Him (with that responsive love proper to creatures)

and to love Him we must know Him:

and if we know Him, we shall in fact fall /on our faces.

If we do not, that only shows that [what we are trying to love] is not yet God

— though it may be the nearest approximation to God //which our thought and fantasy can attain.

 

Yet the call is not only to prostration and awe;

it is to a reflection of the Divine life,

a creaturely participation in the Divine attributes //which is far beyond our present desires.

 

We are bidden to ‘put on Christ’, to become like God.

That is, whether we like it or not, God intends to give us [what we need], not what we now think we want.

Once more, we are embarrassed /by the intolerable compliment, by too much love, not too little.

Do we 우리는 suppose 추측하는가 that절 내용을 즉 they 그것들이 can do 할 수 있다고 Him 그분께 any 어떤 good 좋은 걸,

or 또는 fear 공포를, like the chorus 후렴처럼 in Milton 밀턴에 나오는,

 

that절 내용을 즉 human 인간의 irreverence 불경이 can bring about 가져올 수 있다고 ‘His 그분의 glory’s 영광의

diminution’ 감소를?

 

 

A man 사람은 can no more 더 많이 diminish 감소시킬 수 없다 God’s 하나님의 glory 영광을

/by refusing 거부함으로 to worship 경배하기를 Him 그분을

 

/than 보다도 a lunatic 한 미치광이가 can put out 제거할 수 있기 the sun 태양을 /by scribbling 갈겨씀으로

the word 그 단어 ‘darkness’ 암흑을 on the walls 벽에 of his cell 그의 감방에.

 

정신병자가 '암흑'이라는 단어를 감방 벽에 갈겨 쓴다고 태양이 꺼지지 않듯이

하나님을 경배하기를 거부한다해서 하나님의 영광이 감소될 수 없다

 

But 그러나 God 하나님께서는 wills 바라신다 our 우리의 good 선을,

and 그리고 our 우리의 good 선은 is to love 사랑하기이다 Him

(with that 그런 responsive 반응적 love 사랑으로 proper 지당한 to creatures 피조물들에게)

 

and 그리고 to love 사랑하기 위해서는 Him 그분을 we 우리는 must know 알아야 한다 Him 그분을:

 

and 그리고 if 만약 we 우리가 know 안다면 Him 그분을,

we 우리는 shall in fact 사실 fall /on our faces 부복해야 한다.

 

 

If 만약 we 우리가 do not 하지 않는다면, that 그건 only 단지 shows 보여준다 that절 내용을 즉

[what 그 것은 we 우리가 are trying 시도하는 to love 사랑하기를] is not yet 아직은 아니다 God 하나님이

 

— though 비록 it 그것이 may be the nearest 가장 가까운 approximation 근사치라도 to God 하나님께 대한

//which 그건 our 우리의 thought 생각과 and fantasy 환성이 can attain 획득할 수 있는.

 

 

Yet 여전히 the call 소명은 is not 아니다 only 단지 to prostration 엎드리고 and awe 경탄하기만이;

 

it 그건 is to a reflection 한 반영이다 of the Divine 신적인 life 삶의,

 

a creaturely 피조물적인 participation 참여인 in the Divine attributes 신성에

//which 그건 is far beyond 훨씬 더 능가하는 our 우리의 present 현존하는 desires 욕망을.

 

 

We 우리는 are bidden 초대받았다 to ‘put on 입기를 Christ 그리스도를’, to become 되기를 like God 하나님처럼.

 

That is 말하자면, whether we 우리가 like 좋아하거나 it 그걸 or not 싫어하든,

God 하나님께서는 intends 의도하신다 to give 주시기를 us 우리에게 [what 그것을 we 우리가 need 필요한],

not what 그것이 아니라 we 우리가 now 지금 think 생각하는 we 우리가 want 원한다고.

 

Once more 다시 한번, we 우리는 are embarrassed 당황스럽게 된다

/by the intolerable 용납/감당 못 할 compliment 찬사로인해,

by too much love 너무나도 많은 사랑으로 인한, not too little 너무 적은 것이 아닌.

 

* 기독인 신자들이 일반적으로 요 3:16의 '하나님의 자녀'를 천사 정도로 상상할 수 있지만

사실은 하나님처럼 되는 것이 바로 하나님의 자녀들 - 아들/딸들이 되는 것이 성경적이며

불경?스럽지만 하나님의 참 아들이신 예수님과 동률로 격상되는 놀라운 은총인 것이지만

이는 기독인 신자가 그리스도로 옷 입을 때에만 일어나는 '신격화' 즉 일심동체인 것이요

 

그리스도 안에 들어가서 그리스도와 연합될 때 비로소 '하나님처럼' 즉 '예수님처럼' 되는데

이는 사탄이 제시한 '하나님처럼' 되는 말뿐인 무능신 놀음 하는 것과는 천지차이로 다르며

불교에서 인간의 노력으로 '열반'하여 신선의 경지에 들어간다는 관념놀이와 차원이 다르나

 

죽기까지 순종하신 '성자 하나님처럼' 되는 일은 그다지 인기가 없는 것이 흠이라면 흠이다
